Governor Hope Uzodinma has admonished Nigerians to be patriotic in championing peace and togetherness among fellow citizens for the progress of the nation.

He maintained that Nigerians have every reason to thank God after 64 years of Independence from colonial masters, insisting that the country’s brightest days lie ahead.

Addressing the congregation at the end of the Independence Day Anniversary Church Service at Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri, the Governor expressed thanks to God for giving Nigerians another opportunity to celebrate their Independence in the face of relative peace and unity, noting that it is a sign that Nigeria is a Nation whose God is Lord.

The Governor who said that Nigeria’s story is not that of defeat but hope in the Supreme God, solicited collective prayers for the country and her leaders from the citizenry for a nation of dreams.

Uzodinma urged Nigerians to give thanks to God in all circumstances and move away from what he described as lamentation to celebration and from dismay to hope.

In response to an alleged plot by the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) to disrupt the 2024 Independence Day celebration, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has, in collaboration with sister security agencies, positioned security personnel at strategic points across the 27 LGAs in the state.

Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye in a statement disclosed that the joint security operation is aimed at ensuring safe and peaceful Independence Day celebration throughout the state and to curtail any social unrest that may arise during and after the event.

In response to recent threats from the proscribed IPOB/ESN militia group, the Police Command has established robust security measures to address any potential risks.

It however encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station.
