The Imo State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind a Bill presented by Hon. Ambrose Obinna Egu, representing the Ngor-Okpala State Constituency, aimed at boosting electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within Imo State of Nigeria.
The Bill, which was endorsed seeks to establish a regulatory framework for reliable and sustainable electricity supply, create an electricity market for Imo State, and enforce consumer rights and obligations.
Hon. Egu’s proposal has already cleared its second reading, with unanimous support from the members of the Imo State House of Assembly.
During the Bill’s presentation, Hon. Egu highlighted its importance for the people of Imo State and the broader Nigerian community, citing the state’s rich natural resources, especially its vast gas deposits.
He further pointed out that Imo is the largest producer of natural gas in Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasizing the potential for constant electricity generation.
