The Imo State House of Assembly has urged Governor Hope Uzodinma, to direct the Ministry of Works and other related agencies, to Immediately rehabilitate Emekuku-Emi-Ulakwo road in Owerri North LGA of the state to ameliorate the difficulties encountered by morists and other road users in the area.
The house also urged the governor to direct the state’s ministry of Works, Transport and Environmental and other related agencies to capture the road in it’s annual budget.
This followed the adoption of the motion chiefly sponsored by the member representing Owerri North State Constituency in the hallowed chamber, Hon. Kelechi Ofurum and co-sponsored by eight other honourable members.
Presenting the motion, Ofurum who lamented the deplorable state of the road, noted that commercial and economic activities had been stifled in the area as comuters now take alternative routes to get to their respective destinations
The lawmaker also noted that the road which serves as a conmection road to two federal roads–Owerri/Umuahia and Owerri/Aba roads also serves as access road to three large communties in the area.
He explained that the poor state of the road had brought unbearable hardship to the people of the area as pupils, elderly ones, comuters and other road users find it extremely difficult plying the road especially during the raining season as gully erosion and flood had taken over the most parts of the road
He further who explained that traders as well as farmers from the affected area also experience difficulties conveying their goods and services to neighbouring towns, expressed worry over what he described as alarming rate of criminal activities on the said road, saying that the people of the affected communities now live under serious security threat.
