The Imo State Police Command has reiterated that the ban on the sale, use, and distribution of pyrotechnics, commonly known as knockouts or bangers, will be enforced across the state during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The Command’s public relations officer, ASP Henry Okoye, in a statement, said that ban measure became necessary to ensure public safety, preventing injuries and reducing the risks of fires and accidents caused by fireworks.

He warned that any individual or group caught in possession of or using pyrotechnics whether during public holidays, festivals, or private events, will be arrested and made to face severe legal consequences.

Okoye further stated that the Command will continue to conduct regular patrols and operations to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

Speaking further, the Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, appeals to residents, event organizers, and business owners to cooperate with the directives and report any illegal activities involving pyrotechnics to the nearest police station.
